A Day with Hyosung Chemical

6:30 AM The morning sun tickles my eyes. It’s a bit early, but my smartphone alarm makes waking up a breeze. As soon as I open my eyes, I grab my phone and start browsing the news while listening to my favorite music. Little do most of us know that the display screens of our beloved smartphones are equipped with Hyosung Chemical's TAC Film. This film boasts excellent surface uniformity and durability in high-temperature, high-humidity environments. It protects the PVA polarizing film in LCD polarizing plates used in TVs, monitors, and laptops. Hyosung Chemical developed and produced its own Tri-Acetyl Cellulose Film (TAC Film), making it the first Korean company to mass-produce TAC Film with an annual production capacity of 110 million square meters.

 

AM 7:00 I cannot skip breakfast before work, but I also cannot indulge in a lavish meal, so I opt for a simple beverage. The morning drink comes in a plastic bottle made with Hyosung Chemical's TPA technology. High-purity Terephthalic Acid (TPA) is the primary raw material for high-function polyester fibers, PET resins, films, and engineering plastics, including the PET bottle containing today's beverage. AM 7:30 A freshing morning begins, and it’s the perfect time to start a day with a warm shower and some \music. Even during this moment of relaxation, Hyosung Chemical's technology is working in the background; as its Polypropylene R200P is utilized in the water supply and return pipes to minimize leaks and damages. Since 1998, Hyosung Chemical has been supplying Asia's first PP Random Copolymer (PP-R) for PP-R pipes under the name R200P, and has been leading the global market since 2006, when it was recognized as a world-class product.

 

  

AM 8:00 I finally head to work. Since the office is not so close, I opt to drive there. Before getting in the car, I make sure to check the tire pressure. It’s worth something that Hyosung Chemical's TPA technology is also incorporated in the tirecords inside the tires. Their high purity TPA is produced using the latest equipment and advanced methods, reflecting Hyosung Chemical's experience and expertise. PM 12:00 Finally, it’s the most awaited time of the day for office workers – lunchtime! Today, I plan to have lunch at the company cafeteria. While eating, it is impressive to know that I am using a tray made of harmless polyketone, incorporating Hyosung Chemical's technology. Polyketone is an eco-friendly, high-performance polymer material that was the first to be globally commercialized. Its exceptional properties enhance energy efficiency during production and emits less carbon dioxide compared to other materials. It is also stronger and more wear-resistant than nylon, and is even used in children's toys as a harmless material.

 

  

PM 15:00 After lunch, work resumes and a wave of drowsiness starts to set in. To stay energetic and avoid the afternoon slump, a must-have for office workers is a cup of coffee. Even in this essential afternoon pick-me-up, you can find Hyosung Chemical's technology. The PET bottles commonly found in everyday beverages are made using TPA, and the plastic cup for today's coffee also incorporates Hyosung Chemical's high-purity TPA.

 

  

PM 18:00 Finally, it's time to leave work! This moment is eagerly awaited by most office workers.  Although I set off for a leisurely commute, I can’t avoid the traffic congestion. To pass the time, I decide to watch some entertaining content on my smartphone. Besides the display, Hyosung Chemical's technology is also present within the device – specifically, 20% F₂/N₂ mixed gas. This high-quality gas, with a purity of 99.999%, is used in semiconductor manufacturing processes to effectively clean the interior walls of the chamber and protect delicate semiconductor equipment through a chemical reaction between impurities and F₂. The 20% F₂/N₂ mixed gas is an essential industrial specialty gas of semiconductors in smartphones. Hyosung Chemical's mixed gas is the only one in South Korea based on high-purity F2 technology, and their excellent management of F2 and N2 mixing ratios ensures stable production of high-quality products.

 

PM 20:00 After work, it's time to unwind and enjoy some personal relaxation time. Despite having had a late dinner, I sit down in front of the TV to relax. The TV display I watch also features another Hyosung Chemical product – NF3 gas, also known as nitrogen trifluoride. This colorless, non-reactive gas is used for cleaning CVD chambers in advanced industries such as semiconductors and displays, as well as for semiconductor etching. Hyosung Chemical’s in-house development of high-quality nitrogen trifluoride gas ensures a purity of 99.999% or higher, making it a remarkable product in the industry.

 

  

PM 22:00 It's time to wrap up the day and recharge for tomorrow. I lay down in bed, snuggling into the soft quilt, and appreciate the fact that even this comfortable quilt is a product of Hyosung Chemical's technology. TPA, the main raw material of polyester fiber, is particularly remarkable in quality, contributing to the competitiveness of polyester manufacturers.
