Hyosung Chemical Unveils Its Vision of Sustainability at Chinaplas 2023

Chinaplas 2023, the world's leading technology-oriented plastics and rubber trade fair, was held for four days from April 17. Chinaplas is a trade fair with a 30-year history, and its iteration for 2023 involved the participation of companies that supply raw materials and processing technologies related to the manufacture of plastic products. Among the product categories demonstrated at the four-day event were 3D technologies, chemicals, fuel aids, and equipment that perform measurement, control, and testing functions. Some 3,900 participating companies from nearly 150 countries at Chinaplas 2023 include the likes of the global chemical company BASF of Germany. During this event, a total of 248,222 visitors toured around the expo, and 28,429 of them were expo visitors from overseas. The expo, which was a great success, was the first large-scale event held in China after its COVID-19 lockdown measures were lifted, and put a spotlight on chemical companies around the world. Under the theme of "A Brighter and Shared Future, Powered by Innovation," Chinaplas 2023 gave a glimpse of eco-friendly and recycling technologies of the world's major chemicals companies. Notably, Hyosung Chemical ran a 167㎡ booth from which it showcased the R200P, the world's top-selling polypropylene (PP) product, and Poketone, its brand of engineered eco-friendly plastic (polyketone; POK). The full range of sustainable chemical products Hyosung Chemical put on display at Chinaplas 2023 included 12 PP products in five categories, 17 POK products in seven categories, and nylon chips made from recycled waste fishing nets.
Hyosung Chemical, The Next Chemistry
Hyosung Chemical's future-oriented, eco-friendly products were unveiled under its slogan of "The Next Chemistry," a statement of its commitment to a sustainable future. Besides the R200P and Poketone, Hyosung TNC's ‘regen INDUSTRY’ brand of industrial materials was showcased.
Hyosung Chemical's R200P is an economical, eco-friendly, chemically stable, and easy-to-apply raw material for cold and hot water pipes. At Hyosung Chemical's booth in Chinaplas 2023, the R202P, a new offshoot which maintains the R200P's pressure resistance but allows for reduced pipe thicknesses, captured the limelight. The R200P and R202P were among the 12 PP products in five categories that Hyosung Chemical showcased at Chinaplas 2023, all eco-friendly in essence and designed for use in transparent vessels that can reduce energy consumption, secondary cell films for EV battery packaging, and other sustainable solutions.
Another material technology of Hyosung Chemical presented was Poketone, the world’s first polyketone product to be commercialized. Poketone was engineered to produce little carbon dioxide emissions from its manufacture, boast high resistance to wear and chemicals, and be completely safe to human health, making it a highly versatile material. Poketone is ideal for use in EV parts and plastic products for food, drinks, and baby products, as well as for various other industrial and household applications.
Also showcased was Hyosung TNC's regen INDUSTRY brand of industrial materials. regen INDUSTRY, the fruit of a new brand architecture developed by Hyosung TNC, offers as its mainstay nylon chips used to make recycled yarn that has numerous eco-friendly applications.

Hyosung Chemical made flawless preparations for Chinaplas 2023, and was spotlighted center stage at the event for its achievements in chemistry for a sustainable future, including recycling technology for manufacture of eco-friendly advanced materials and eco-friendly circulation of existing materials.
Overall, a greater proportion of the products presented at Chinaplas 2023 were made of recycled and eco-friendly materials, advanced materials that mark a departure from petrochemistry toward sustainability. The expo substantiated the increasing interest in and demand for recycling and sustainability. Its participation in Chinaplas 2023 gave Hyosung Chemical a renewed sense of its future direction.
